TRIAX has recently added the single multiswitch 5 Pro series to its multiswitch portfolio. We spoke to Thierry Baumann, TRIAX Group Product Manager, about this.
What are the distinguishing factors of TRIAX multiswitches as a whole?
During development, we took into account feedback from users – especially the many installers who install TRIAX multiswitches. This makes them very reliable and offers a lot of flexibility. It is also practical that they fit together like building blocks and offer enough space to conveniently attach connectors. In addition, the multiswitches can be switched to active/passive terrestrial. This gives the installer more flexibility in stock-keeping. We are not afraid to give our customers a 6-year product guarantee for the multiswitches – we are simply convinced of the high quality.
What is new with the 5 Pro single multi-switches?
Due to the 22GHz generator, they can be used with Quattro and Quad LNBs and have a low power consumption. In addition, the input levels can be controlled and adjusted here – for larger systems with 24 or 32 output switches, this also applies to the output levels.
When should an installer choose a Pro Series multi-switch?
We recommend the single multiswitches 5 Pro especially for more complex installations, e.g. for several floors, larger residential complexes or hotels with many receivers. Here, the multi-switch plays a decisive role in the signal distribution. It amplifies the reception signals and distributes them to the outputs. If the input level is too low, the picture or sound quality may be poor. If the input level is too high, the picture and sound are often distorted. With the correct setting of the output level, an even signal distribution to all connected end devices can be ensured – a brilliant TV experience with clear picture and sound.

TRIAX headends: NEW features for the compact headend TDcH
Future-proof and flexible solution with multiple upgrade options
Hornsyld, Denmark, 20 October 2022 — The TDcH compact headend is now easily upgraded to support IP-In and SNMP monitoring via a new software licence (2.4.0). The software update also activates LED status displays at the inputs and outputs. The new version is available immediately and can be installed on all current and previous models.
The TRIAX compact headend was successfully launched 2 years ago. A highly future-proof platform, it offers great flexibility, with a range of features that can be individually upgraded (via software licences) to meet changing requirements. As experts in headend technology, TRIAX customers can be assured each and every TRIAX headend guarantees the same quality TRIAX experience.
“With the latest IP-In function, IPTV signals can now also be fed in and distributed via coaxial or ethernet networks. A typical application in the hospitality environment is the integration of IPTV services, which can be offered to guests as a programme expansion. In-house programmes with local offers can also be realised in this way and simply fed into the headend.”

The optional SNMP (Single Network Management Protocol) monitoring activates the function in the compact head- end and sends status changes via SNMP traps to SNMP-supporting monitoring software. This enables continuous monitoring, status queries and signalling even via remote networks.
The TDcH has been built on TRIAX advanced Next Generation Headend Platform which offers the full range of signal modulation options from satellite, terrestrial, cable, and now includes IP signals into QAM, COFDM or IP. For subscription TV projects a version with 8 CI slots is also available.
With its compact design, the TDcH can be installed in any 19” rack or wall mounted. Each headend is tested according to strict specifications and is delivered to the customer ready for configuration. Each TRIAX headend system can be set up and monitored via the browser-based management tool. To help deliver the best customer experience, TRIAX skilled team of support engineers are available to provide outstanding service for any installation requests. The TOFsat advantage
Fibre cabling has some significant advantages compared to coax cabling in general:
- Higher bandwidth — a 3mm fibre cable substitutes 5x7mm coax drop cables for transmission of the full bandwidth for one Sat position and the terrestrial signals
- Allows enlarged cabling distances because of the low attenuation of a fibre cable – about 0.35dB per 1 km
- Prevention of electromagnetic ingress noise from LTE mobile services, for example, and disturbance from DC potential and transient currents because of the natural galvanic isolation of fibre cables
High flexibility
- Reception of the vertical and horizontal polarised frequency ranges of a satellite position, plus terrestrial FM, DAB and DTT bands over one mutual fibre line
- Optional use of different LNBs: Standard wideband LNB, K-band LNB or dCSS LNBs for operator-specific satellite programme bouquets
- Enlargement of the FO networks by active FO Repeaters or EDFAs
Cost saving
- TOFsat is highly competitive because it uses frequency stacking and de-stacking for the Sat-IF-High, -Low and TER bands using specific ASIC chips. Thus only one laser transmitter and one optical receiver is sufficient for one entire Sat position and terrestrial transmission. (Comparing frequently-used wavelengths multiplexing in alternative systems needs 3 laser transmitters and 3 optical receivers in the re-converter for the same constellation. This increases the cost on the reception side, especially if large numbers of re-converters are connected.)
- FO networks require less maintenance effort, and also less power consumption.

Guest information system for any TV – In Touch 6.1

Implementing a guest information system is often challenged by a high investment need, as it requires dedicated hospitality TV sets in all rooms.
With the In Touch 6.1 update and the new TRIAX TV Player, you can install a professional guest information system on TVs of almost any make and model, making the most of your existing equipment and eliminating any need to invest in hospitality TVs.
The TV Player is a compact die-cast box that can be securely mounted behind most TVs, tucked away tamper-free and out of sight. It’s controlled by the included RF-based universal remote, enabling access to all the apps and functionalities of the In Touch platform and the TV itself.
New functionalities for the In Touch TV solution
The In Touch guest room TV solution has been expanded adding three new apps: TV Guide App, TV Pack App and HDMI source select App.
TV Guide App expands the existing now & next feature with a programme guide (EPG) for the next 48 hours.
TV Pack App enables up to 4 different TV channel packages which can be up-sold and added to individual rooms by front desk staff upon request, or potentially used in other commercial communication to differentiate between room offerings.
Finally, the popular HDMI Source Select App has been upgraded to be fully customizable. With the new software it is now possible to assign up to 2 different HDMI sources per installation, giving guests the option to connect their own device directly to the TV, or for example enabling access to a casting solution for guests to cast their own content to the TV.
Connect your Digital Signage via WiFi
Launched together with the new software is a new Digital Signage Player (DS Player), which includes WiFi, 2 HDMI outputs, and is 4K compliant.
With WiFi you now have the full freedom to place your digital signage screen wherever you prefer, without having to worry about available ethernet outlets.
With the dual parallel HDMI output, you can connect two screens to the same DS Player and save both installation hardware cost and time when updating your messages. This is a big benefit in areas where you have back-to-back screens showing the same content, and is frequently used in train stations, airports, and other public areas where the flow of people can come from several directions.
With 4K being implemented in more and more screens the new DS Player has also been upgraded to be 4K compliant, supporting 4K graphics giving you the flexibility to use screens with both new and older technologies.
The new DS Player is available in two versions — with or without PoE. If your digital signage is placed where an ethernet cable is available and your switch supports PoE, the DS player with PoE can be powered via the ethernet cable, reducing the need for additional power outlets.

The TDcH compact headend is optimised and engineered to meet specific TV distribution requirements in hospitality, multi-dwelling units and related sectors, with an appealing, competitive cost per service ratio.
It is built on a cutting edge new platform where many functions are software-based.
This software platform benefits customers as they will be able to upgrade their already installed TDcH with new software releases and thereby always have the latest functions available.

Additional input types and output modulations
Newly launched versions of the TDcH compact headend make it possible to choose between QAM and COFDM modulation in the software during setup.
A satellite-only configuration is equipped with 4 DVB-S2X inputs distributed to 16 tuners, 16 QAM or COFDM modulators and 8 CI slots. A free-to-air only version is also available.
A new satellite, terrestrial and cable configuration is available with 4 DVB-S2X inputs distributed to 16 tuners, 1 DVB-T2/C input distributed to 6 tuners, 16 QAM or COFDM modulators and 8 CI slots.
The TDcH compact headend is built for both wall mounting and 19″ racks. Each model stands just 90mm tall and the new integrated SCR multiswitch is an additional space-saving benefit.
Advanced functionalities via complimentary software updates
